ATM fraud - Garratt Lane SW18
Information has been received that on 05/11/2025 around 11:00am a suspicious male was seen loitering near to a ATM on GARRATT LANE SW18.

The male was seen to go to the ATM and put something into the card port.

The male has then been seen standing near the ATM in a concealing position appearing to wait for other people to use the machine.

This male has noticed that he was being recorded by a member of public and such he has walked of down towards EARLSFIELD STATION.

Police have attended the venue 20 minutes later and upon inspection the ATM did appear to have some sort of card catcher device inside. This was removed and it appears its function is to jam cards in the machine.
Suspect description: WHITE MALE, STOCKEY, 50-60 YEARS OLD, GREEN HAT, BLACK JACKET, BLACK JEANS, BROWN RUCKSACK.

How to protect yourself:

Inspect the ATM: Before use, check the card slot and keypad for anything loose, damaged, or oddly placed. If something looks suspicious, do not use it.
Shield your PIN: Always cover your hand and keyboard with your other hand or body when entering your PIN to prevent hidden cameras or prying eyes from seeing it.
Be wary of strangers: Do not accept help from strangers and be cautious if they try to distract you while you are using the machine.
Report suspicious activity immediately: If your card is trapped or you see any tampering, call your bank while you are still at the machine if it is safe to do so.
Secure your information: Never share your PIN with anyone and put your money and card away before leaving the ATM.
